Zeefdruk SER voor vorstin. Koningin Beatrix ontving gisteren uit handen van Herman Wijffels, voorzitter van de jubilerende SER, de eerste zeefdruk van de raadzaal van het nieuwe SER-gebouw. Hier sta ik ook volledig achter.

Miljoenen-handdruk voor Aalbers. door Emile Bode. NIJMEGEN (!) - De ontslagen Vitesse-voorzitter Karel Aalbers krijgt van Vitesse een gouden handdruk van 4 à 5 miljoen gulden. De heer Aalbers wordt thans in staat gesteld een belang in onze organisatie te verwerven. Amerikanen proberen Aalbers weer in het zadel te krijgen. Ik denk niet dat dat nodig is, tenzij de familie Van der Heyden/Spencer alsnog een vinger in de pap krijgt. Kabinet pakt personeelstekort aan. Ze zijn allen welkom in ons bedrijf. Dat heb ik de heren Melkert en De Grave al laten weten. Dit lijkt mij iets leuks voor Herman. Hij is er al aan gewend om zich snel te verplaatsen. Laat hem dat maar weten als je hem nog een keer aan de telefoon hebt. Afrikareis domper voor fractieleiders. Laat ze maar een afspraak maken met Charles Spencer. Ik denk dat hij - op dit moment - een belangrijker contact is dan gemelde heren. Ik denk dat Jonkheer Roëll daaraan zijn medewerking kan verlenen. Een bezoek aan het Robbeneiland is - in principe - niet meer aan de orde. Dat heeft Willem-Alexander al gedaan. Een dubbele uitgave dienaangaande leidt alleen nog maar tot rendementsverlies voor de staat. Als de Zuidafrikaanse Regering bereid is die excursie te bekostigen, heb ik geen bezwaar. Laat dat maar weten aan de heer Rosenmöller. Ex-rechercheurs investeren in gokhuis. Deze bezittingen dienen in het kader van de regeling tip-, toon- en voorkoopgelden ogenblikkelijk in beslag te worden genomen. Lady Ferguson is thans welkom in The Business. Laat haar dat maar weten. "Mind you, this whole discussion started last fall when a Methodist Minister in Texas contacted me about the history of his chapel--Spence Chapel, as I recall--in Rusk Co., TX. And then the SPENCE list got involved into the identity of this Spence. Jourdan or Jurdan Spence (b. 1792, NC--son of Edward Spence), emerged as a likely candidate. I knew that Jourden had been in Tennessee prior to his sojourn into Kentucky and finally, into this area of Texas. Well, wait until I tell you what I discovered today--accidentally, by the way. I wasn't even thinking about Jourden Spence at the time. I was thinking about the Lacys! First, a brief recap concerning Jourden Spence. He appears on the 1820 Perry county Tennessee Census with Amos Spencer (who was a Spencer, by the way). By 1830, Jourden moved to Madison County, TN. In 1833 his cousin, Elisha Spence, also moved to Madison County, TN, where he died in 1835. (Elisha's first wife was Susannah Spencer--who was a Spencer). By 1836 or 1837, Jourden settled in Weakely County, TN, where he remained through 1850. He then moved to Kentucky and from there (ca. the Civil War), he moved to Rusk County, TX where (as I recall) this chapel sits. Some researchers have suggested that Jourden's wife, Delilah, was a Bailey.--and that surname is important to what I discovered today. According to the 1850 Census for Weakley County, TN: Jourdan's family follows: J. (Jourdan) age 58, b. NC; Delilah, age 55 (putting her date of birth at approx. 1795,--NC or KY; children: Parthenia, age 33, Margaret, age 29, Abner, age 19, Wilson, age 17, Ira, age 13--all b. in TN. We will now circle around to my Lacy hunt. Last week, I received several huge brown envelopes full of information. The contents of one envelope strongly favored a Lacy connection with the John Spencer, Sheriff of Maury County, TN family (father-in-law of Elisha Spence). I didn't know anything about the Lacys, so in my spare time today, started looking for things. And lo and behold, I found this family: Donald Ross Lacy, b. 15 Sept. 1803, North Carolina; m. 20 Nov. 1828, Madison County, TN to JANE BAILEY. d. 29 Jan 1888, TEXAS. Donald Ross Lacy was the son of Stephen Lacy and Katherine Ross. I'll save the rest of the information on them for Vol. 2 of my "Twigs" online journal. Jane Bailey was born 23 June 1810, KY. She died 14 Oct 1887--RUSK CO. TEXAS. These were their children:

2. Katherine Bailey Lacy, b. 1 Jan 1832, Madison Co., TN; d. 17 Sept 1923,Troup, Smith TX; buried Elkins Cem. Omen, Smith, TX.
3. James Bailey Lacy, 7 Jan 1834, Madison Co. TN; d. 18 Sept. 1920, Blanket, TX
4. Mary Isabelle Lacy; b. 8 Nov 1835, Madison Co., TN; d. in Gainesville, TX (date unknown)
5. Thomas Jefferson Lacy, b. 1 Feb. 1838, Madison Co., TN
6. Stephen Lacy, b. 11 Jan 1840, Madison Co., TN
7. Hugh Ross Lacy, b. 23 Jan 1842, Madison Co., TN
8. John B. Lacy, b. 13 Mar 1844, Madison Co., TN
9. Donald Taylor Lacy, b. 1 April 1846; d. 1942/place unknown
10. Eliza Jane Lacy, b. 1 Nov. 1848, Madison Co., TN; d. 1929
11. Griffith Ross Lacy; b. 1850, Madison Co., TN

Jane Bailey's parents are not given. However, I strongly believe that Delilah (wife of Jourdan Spence) and Jane Bailey, (wife of Donald Ross Lacy), were in some way releated. (I am beginning to think that Delilah's mother may have been a Spencer) Concerning the Lacys--I tracked them all the way back to St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, VA with this Spencer line and all the way forward to SC (where John Spencer resided in 1790 and 1800). From there I tracked them back through NC and into TN, with this same Spencer line. Funny thing--where these discussions begin and where they finally end.
